Exercise Therapy
Exercise therapy is regimen of or exercise program of physical activity that are prescribed to facilitate a patient’s recovery from injury, surgery, or any other condition that may have disrupted movement or activities of daily life. In creating a therapeutic exercise program, we consider your specific condition then develop a comprehensive exercise therapy program that utilizes Adaptive Programming principles and techniques to address any fitness constraints you might have.
Scientific evidence has shown that that the benefit of exercise is indisputable, and the benefits of exercise far outweigh the risks. For most, an exercise program which focuses on aerobic, resistance, flexibility, and neuromotor exercise is vital to improving and maintaining fitness and health.
Exercise Therapy is not Physical Therapy. An exercise therapist typically takes over when the physician and physical therapist have released the patient and given approval for them to begin an exercise program.
Role and Scope of Practice: The role of a therapeutic exercise program is to prevent further dysfunction while fostering improvement, restoration, or even maintenance of: muscular strength and endurance; cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory fitness; mobility, flexibility, and range of motion; balance and stability; coordination; functional skills; and activities of daily living.
We do not diagnose conditions, nor do we prescribe therapy.
At UPLFT Fitness, we work within the guidelines provided by your physician/physical therapist to implement their post-op/post-physical therapy recommendations to help you get back to living your best life as quickly as possible. As your condition improves the focus shifts from rehabilitation to using exercise as means to improve your life. This is known as functional fitness.
Functional fitness is focused on building a body that is capable of completing real-life activities in real-life positions. It’s not about lifting a certain amount of weight in an idealized posture created by using a fitness machine.
The programs we create are individualized an include strengthening, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination exercises, and SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness) training. Until recently, SAQ training used exclusively for athletic performance, but research has shown that it is appropriate and beneficial for people of all abilities.
Rates for Exercise Therapy are the same as personal training rates. However, the type of personal training sessions we are able to offer depend on your condition and/or recommendation from your physician and/or physical therapist.
